Facebook from scratch: we all start from zero

Do you wish your Facebook page had more likes? More engagement? Sent more customers to your website? I’m with you! Welcome to the first in a series of posts on building & growing your Facebook page from scratch. (Check out all the posts in the series, thus far.)

Ever wonder what it really takes to create a successful page on Facebook from scratch?

Facebook from scratchI do! And I want to be able to give you first-hand reports on what is and isn't working on Facebook–so I needed a place to experiment with all the latest strategies and Facebook advertising techniques in a way I wouldn't on a client’s page.

Result: I finally lifted the virtual ‘under construction’ barrier on my brand new Facebook Page!

I know, I know, how did I not have a Facebook page until now?!

To be honest, running a popular and engaging Facebook page is a lot of work (I know first hand having managed pages ranging from 100 to 25,000 likes for former clients and employers) and so I took my own advice–I stuck with Twitter since I was comfortable there and already had a following. I used my personal Facebook profile to be of service in groups I’m a part of and I have the ‘Follow’ button enabled on my profile to allow people to stay in touch on Facebook.

But the time had finally come. I have big plans for September (hint: a free back-to-school Facebook challenge to help you whip your page into shape! Make sure you are on my list to hear about the fun first) and I knew I needed a Facebook page to execute my vision.

A behind-the-scenes look at what works (& doesn't!)

I currently have a whole 14 likes. Seriously. This post is the first real ‘my page exists!' announcement and I have yet to run any Facebook ads or even ask my friends and family to like the page. So I want to invite you along for the ride!

We all start from scratch with zero likes–even those of us who are ‘social media’ people!–and I’m going to document the growth of my page right here so we can all learn together. This is the first in a series of ‘Facebook-from-scratch’ posts I plan to write as my page evolves. If you want proven strategies, hard facts and a real behind-the-scenes look (no holds barred!) this is for you.

Resources to get you started

Next week: A first look at Facebook ads–I’m far from an expert in this area and I've been studying up as I prepare to run the first ads for my page. I’m compiling a collection of awesome resources from around the web that I’m using to accelerate my learning process and I can’t wait to share them with you! (Jump on my list to follow every step of the evolution plus get insights I only share with my community!)

I’d love to hear from you

Do you have a Facebook Page? What’s the #1 question you have about Facebook Pages? What are you dying to know how to do?

I read & respond to every single comment–and your question might even get a full blog post answer as part of the Facebook from scratch series!

Do you know a fellow entrepreneur or small business owner who needs some help with their Facebook Page? I'd love if you passed along this post (you can share it on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ using the buttons right below!) and invited them to join us on this Facebook-from-scratch adventure.
